$1 VS $100 Street Food in Afghanistan
Today I want to show you want you can get for $1 in the streets of Kabul before taking you to the most luxurious restaurant in Afghanistan, where I will be spending $100 to see if it is really worth it. Get ready for an Afghan food review!
Our Afghan food tour starts at the Old Bazaar of Kabul, a place filled with life and Afghan street food. For our first stop I decided to try Jigar consisting of liver in a delicious tomato base sauce and tons of spices serve with Afghan bread. Even though I typically don't like organ meat, this was very nice and flavorful. ($0.72)
Up next, my personal favorite which is bulani. This is literally carbs on carbs in fat. But let me tell you, it's amazing. Thinly sliced potatoes from the Bamyan Province folded inside of a thin dough and deep fried. Don't forget to dip it in the red chilli sauce for an extra quick. ($0.07)
To round up our dollar, we sat down for a nice bowl of Afghan Aush. This yogurt soup pasta dish or whatever you want to call it was definitely unique and like nothing I had ever tasted before. Was it good, yes but was it my favorite not really. ($0.14)
From the Kabul market we drove to Afghanistan's most luxurious restaurant also located in the capital city, a place called Ziyafat Restaurant. Walking into this restaurant felt like walking in Dubai. The grand entrance, gold everywhere, all staff wearing suits and even a valet service. To spend $100 at Ziyafat, I had to order one of those massive BBQ plater. Ours included chicken wings, fried fish, kabuli, quail and all kinds of kebabs. It also came with naan, salad and a massive bowl of custard which might have been this entire meal's highlight. ($98.75)
If you ever wanted to visit Afghanistan then I couldn't recommend Let's Go Afghanistan enough. They organized an amazing itinerary that took me all over the country from the different cities to the most remote locations and all of this by putting safety first. https://letsgoafghanistan.com/
