Volkswagen takes its Tiguan mainstream for 2018, boosting its cargo capacity and giving up a little bit of the driving character that makes VWs popular with enthusiasts. The new Tiguan can hold more stuff and seat more people in a new optional third row, and it offers some helpful new safety features, including automatic emergency braking and a blind-spot monitor with cross-traffic alerts. The new Tiguan also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which is particularly helpful since some trims do not offer navigation.
All 2018 Tiguans get a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that produces 184 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel-drive versions get EPA estimates of 22 mpg city, 27 highway, and 24 combined, while versions with VW’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system are estimated at 21 city, 27 highway, and 23 combined. Tiguans with 4Motion can also be ordered with the Active Control system, which offers three non-standard settings for challenging conditions as well as a Sport mode.
