2025 Honda Pilot IIHS Crash Test
The 2025 Honda Pilot, a midsize SUV, has been awarded the TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This accolade is given to vehicles that achieve high ratings in several stringent safety tests. The Pilot received favorable ratings in the small overlap front and updated side tests, as well as an acceptable rating in the updated moderate overlap front test. It also performed well in pedestrian front crash prevention and had good-rated headlights across all trim levels.
The key factor that distinguished the Pilot for the higher-tier award was its acceptable rating in the updated moderate overlap front test, which primarily evaluates rear seat passenger protection. For the 2025 model year, Honda made enhancements to the rear seat belts of the Pilot to provide better protection for second-row passengers. Although the rear dummy's lap belt moved to the abdomen, posing a potential risk of abdominal injuries, the shoulder belt functioned properly without causing undue force on the chest, and overall injury risk remained low. The protection for the driver was rated as excellent.
Standard features on all trims of the Pilot include a front crash prevention system that earned a good rating in pedestrian tests and consistently good-rated headlights. The IIHS, an independent nonprofit organization funded by auto insurers, focuses on reducing motor vehicle crash-related deaths, injuries, and property damage through rigorous research, evaluation, and education aimed at consumers, policymakers, and safety professionals.
