BYD Takes On Prado And Everest! (BYD Denza B5/Fang Cheng Bao 5 preview drive)

Off-road wagons have soared in popularity, with the Toyota Prado and Ford Everest experiencing best-ever sales results in recent years. Chinese brand GWM was first to offer rivals with its Tank range, and now it looks like BYD will have an answer.

Called the Fang Cheng Bao Leopard 5 in its China home market, BYD’s expected to bring this large, ladder-frame 4x4 as the first model in its luxury Denza stable as the B5. Pricing is tipped to be beyond $80,000, but boy do you get a lot for that.

Chasing Cars road test editor John Law jets over to China for a first taste of this 505kW / 760Nm plug-in hybrid 4x4 monster that has a lot in common with the popular BYD Shark 6, and he finds plenty to like.
