Can a Fancy Ute Survive Long Term? (Volkswagen Amarok V6 PanAmericana 2025 Long-Term Review)

Volkswagen’s close collaboration with Ford birthed the new-generation Amarok and Ranger twins, with both attracting an enviable reputation as segment leaders since they launched.

But with the Ford Ranger now Australia’s most popular vehicle outright, prices have begun to climb where as the nearly identical Amarok has only attracted a little over 1/10th of the sales.

Given this, Volkswagen has aggressively loaded the Amarok up with features and, more recently, begun to offer some enticing dealers that puts this PanAmericana nearly $10,000 cheaper than the fully-packaged Ford Ranger Wildtrak we previously ran as a long termer.

To see if the Amarok has become the wider choice than the sibling ranger in 2025, production specialist Tom Place has taken the ute on as his long term vehicle and has big plans for the next three months and hopefully, 10,000km.
