China’s best Tesla Model Y challenger to date? (Xpeng G6 Long Range 2025 Review)

There has been an onslaught of Chinese challengers to Tesla Model Y’s dominance of the mid-size electric SUV segment and the G6 Long Range from Xpeng looks to be one of the toughest competitors yet.

New to Australia, what has Xpeng got on offer, particularly in this direct rival to the Tesla Model Y?

The high-grade Long Range version of the rear-drive G6 we have here on test fits a 87.5kWh battery and lists for $59,800, so cheaper than the Model Y. The range is a rated 570 kilometres WLTP. It sits above the entry Standard Range (66kWh battery) version that’s five grand more affordable.

Chasing Cars founder Tom Baker takes the Xpeng G6 LR for a full deep-dive test to see whether it’s worth consideration against obvious opinions such as Tesla as well as the growing army of Chinese-sourced electric machinery.
