Germany is known all over Europe to have some of the most beautiful Christmas markets in the world so we had to go see for ourselves and let me tell you, we were not disappointed! If you can only visit one country in Europe for a Christmas market tour, make sure this country is Germany and Cologne or Köln is an amazing city to do so.

Our Holiday market tour of Cologne started at the Old Town Christmas Market, home of the Heinzelmännchen. This market was our favorite because of its authentic and warm feel. The food was simply fantastic and the live Christmas music added so much for the ambiance. Make sure to get a cinnamon bun!

From there, we took the Christmas market train of Cologne and headed to the Harbour Christmas market, the newest market in the city of Cologne. The gluhwein or mulled wine at this specific Christmas market was the best we've had in Europe period.

Then the market that brought back this trend a few decades ago, the Angel Christmas market. If you are not looking at Christmas market hopping, this is the one for you. Great ambiance, tons of food and gift option with of course the famous angels walking around. Truly a magical Christmas market worth visiting.

And we of course kept the best market of Cologne for the end or at least this is what we thought. The Cologne Cathedral Christmas Market is the most famous one in Cologne and one of the most famous one in whole of Germany and Europe. The Cathedral itself is so impressive so see in person and truly adds to the ambiance of the market, especially when its bells are ringing. The Christmas market is beautiful with a lot of lights and delicious food but is extremely busy due to its international popularity. The German pretzel we ate there was worth it all though.
