Even US Can’t Believe What EUROPE Plans to do to Russia
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has announced a sweeping $937 billion (€800 billion) ReArm Europe Plan, unveiled on July 9, that aims to transform the continent’s military readiness. Combined with €150 billion in defense loans, the plan calls for massive investment in joint procurement, defense technology, and force interoperability across EU member states. This announcement came just hours after Russia launched its largest drone strike of the war—728 drones in a single day—targeting key Ukrainian cities including Kyiv and Lutsk.
The port of Rotterdam, Europe’s largest, is also preparing for possible war by coordinating with Antwerp for military logistics, a sign of the continent’s increasing readiness. Meanwhile, Russia’s defense spending is projected at just $200 billion for 2025, a stark contrast to Europe’s military surge. With over a million Russian casualties to date and Ukraine enduring 3,400 drone strikes monthly, EU leaders are underlining that time is critical. NATO figures suggest that Europe must go beyond the 2% GDP target, aiming for 3.5% short-term, and potentially 5% by 2035, to counter the Russian threat.
