The best WRX in years! (Subaru WRX tS Spec B 2025 Review)

Tears flowed down the faces of many die-hard WRX fans when, in 2022, Subaru announced that plans for the STI variant had been killed off for the current generation, leaving them with nowhere to go if they wanted a true go-fast Subie weapon.

Many migrated to the host of new performance cars, such as the Hyundai i30 N or the Toyota GR Yaris and Corolla models, but many still longed for a hotter version of the WRX.

While the tS, with its grade-exclusive adaptive dampers, has historically been CVT-only, the new tS Spec B variant is manual only, with a price of $61,540.

That’s some $13,000 more than the equivalent WRX base model, and while it does have a long list of handling, interior and braking upgrades, it doesn’t feature any more power or torque.

So is the new Spec B variant worthy of your consideration? Deputy editor Curt Dupriez investigates.
