In order to help you decide if you want to order a new VW Golf 8.5 GTI & GTI Clubsport, in this video I share with you my opinions on the options available by delving into the VW UK configurator which reveal a number of things that are either confusing and/or contradictory.

I'd done a dry run of this video the day before filming and at the time a "space and weight" saving spare wheel was listed but this wasn't on the configurator at the time of filming - another oddity.

I mention the P11D price which is the price that company car tax is based on. This appears to be the same as the list price which is the on the road (OTR) price less the initial registration fee and the first years road tax. This means the P11D price is the number that the luxury car tax is based on which means in this case around £1k below the OTR price which means you can spec DCC and area view on the base GTI and avoid the LCT. Even main dealer sales folk often aren't aware of this.

It's time for an incredible car vs bike drag race!

We've got Mat in the all-new Audi rs e-tron GT Performance, and it's about to go head-to-head against the amazing all-new Ducati Panigale V4S!

So let's see how the two compare. Starting with the Audi, it's the most powerful Audi road car ever produced! It comes equipped with two electric motors, which combine to produce 925hp (when in launch control mode) and 1,027Nm. Being electric it's pretty heavy, tipping the scales at 2395kg, and as new the car will set you back around £143,000.

The Ducati uses a 1.1-litre V4 engine that can produce 216hp and 121Nm of torque. It's also equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox, and it comes in with a tiny (dry) weight of just 187kg. A new one of these has a price tag just shy of £30,000.

So we know the Audi will be super quick off the mark, but will the Ducati be able to catch it over the quarter-mile? There's only one way to find out for sure... LET'S RACE!

In this video I run through the standard spec and options available on the new 8.5 Golf R and R Black Edition and explain how the way these cars have been priced in the UK, makes the base R version effectively obsolete. Whether is in an error on the part of VW UK or a deliberately aggressive pricing strategy I do not know, if it remains indefinitely we will have our answer!
