CAGAYAN DE ORO, PHILIPPINES - Welcome to the amazing island of Mindanao in the south of the Philippines! We’ll be going round the island eating some of the best Filipino food, and we’re starting in the North of Mindanao in the beautiful city of Cagayan de Oro. Let’s see what amazing Philippines street food we can find!

Huge thank you to Chui (https://www.youtube.com/@TheChuiShow), go follow him for amazing food videos! Also, thank you to Jan and Fatima, our locals friends in Cagayan de Oro.

Humbaan ni Sio-Sio (Cogon Public Market) - We’re starting this Philippines street food tour in the Cogon Public Market, right in the heart of Cagayan de Oro. After walking around we found a legendary stall called Humbaan ni Sio-Sio for their famous Pork Humba. Price - 325 PHP ($5.54 US) for everything

Nanol’s Sikwate & Putomaya (Cogon Public Market) - Next up we continued to the next stall to try Mindanao’s own hot chocolate and sticky rice. What a combination! Price - 55 PHP ($0.94 US)

Malabang Muslim Restaurant - Still within the market we tried Maranao food, an ethnic Muslim group in the Philippines and the food was outstanding! I especially loved the piaparan chicken - chicken with shredded coconut. This meal was just a taste, as in the next episode we’ll be visiting Marawi City! Price - 190 PHP ($3.24 US) for everything

JC Eatery (https://maps.app.goo.gl/3aovCVfFUF5kPa1f9) - One of my favorite Filipino foods is kinilaw, raw marinated fish, but here they take it to the next level with tabon-tabon fruit. We also tried their famous tinola - fish soup.

Proventriculus - Have you ever heard of this? It happens to be one of the most popular street foods in CDO. Price - 745 PHP ($12.69 US) for everything

Pater Al-Kuwait - Our Cagayan de Oro food tour continues and next up we’re trying pater - rice packet in banana leaf. Price - 45 PHP ($0.77 US) per packet

Ladao RM Station (https://maps.app.goo.gl/wJ7k9me9gyirye5P8) - Remember Me Soup has quite a story and I wasn’t going to miss it! Price - 50 PHP ($0.85 US) per bowl

Islamic City of Marawi, Philippines - Today we’re visiting Marawi, a city that’s famous for the wrong reasons, but should be famous for the friendly people and for having some of the tastiest food in the Philippines!

Huge thank you to Chui (https://www.youtube.com/@TheChuiShow), go follow him for amazing food videos! Also, thank you to Jason, our Marawi City guide.

Marawi is located on the island of Mindanao on the shores of Lake Lanao, and is home to the Maranao people, a Filipino ethnic group who are a majority Muslim. Most people in the Philippines have heard of Marawi City from the siege of Marawi, a months long battle that took place in 2017. But the city has been rebuilding and people are welcoming, and I guarantee you will enjoy the amazing food.

Here’s everything we ate on this Marawi halal food tour:

Badak Republik - This restaurant is known for serving badak, a Maranao jackfruit stew full of spices and palapa - it blew me away with flavor. You also need to know about palapa - Maranao spice blend with native scallions (sakurab), that’s used in every single dish.

Marawi Restaurant - Next on this Filipino street food tour we continued to Marawi Restaurant serving authentic Maranao Filipino food. One of the standout dishes was piaparan chicken - chicken with shredded coconut, and I loved the use of palapa, coconut, and turmeric in almost all recipes.

Dodol - When you’re in Marawi you must try dodol, a sweet rice toffee.

The Farm Grill Marawi (https://maps.app.goo.gl/jGZ2T36dFiBvWePo9) - The highlight of our time in Marawi, Philippines was going to The Farm Grill for a grilled king tilapia, cooked in a rich coconut milk and palapa (Inaloban a Isda). It was lifechanging!

Marwai City has a dark past, but it’s rebuilding and safe now, and people are welcoming and the food is some of the best in the Philippines!

Filipino Seafood Tour - KING OF TUNA in Mindanao, Philippines!! 🇵🇭 (This Is Crazy!!)

GENERAL SANTOS CITY, or Gen San as most Filipinos refer to it, is located in the south of the Philippines in the island of Mindanao. It is the capital of tuna in the entire country - where many tunas are caught locally and all tunas caught around the Philippines are brought here to auction and process. If you want to eat the best tuna in the Philippines you have to go to General Santos City!

Thank you to:
► Chui: @TheChuiShow
► Dianne: https://www.facebook.com/DavaoFoodGuidePH/

Here’s everything we did in this food tour:

General Santos City Fish Port Complex (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Rvi7cFCqHhobPDURA) - We’re starting at the fish port complex, where you can see all the tuna freshly off the boat. Michael toured us around, and it was an eye opening experience!

Aweng's Balbacuahan (https://maps.app.goo.gl/sna8j4qDVGvGupMPA) - A dish that you’ll find all over the Philippines is balbacua, often a stew made with cow skin. But according to Dianne, balbacua is originally from General Santos City, and this was a simple and delicious breakfast! Price - 80 PHP ($1.37 US) per bowl

Gamay Eatery (https://maps.app.goo.gl/9eBvDKZ5sX9PFRBQ6) - Manny Pacquiao is originally from General Santos City and when he was training to be a boxer, he would eat at Gamay Eatery - so we ate a meal fit for a champion boxer!

Rachel's Tuna Grill (https://maps.app.goo.gl/iQiNNVR8LGBWiCzS7) - Finally onto the ultimate tuna and fish feast at the best Filipino food restaurant in town! At Rachel's Tuna Grill we had fresh sashimi, grilled tuna jaw, and blue marlin steaks, what a meal!

General Santos City is a seafood paradise in the Philippines!
