New BMW M5 Generations DRAG RACE

Change your car with Carwow: https://bit.ly/Change-Your-Car-0202

It’s time for a BMW M5 head-to-head!

We’ve got Mat in the all-new BMW M5, and he’s going up against the two previous generations - the F90 and F10! The all-new G90 has come under a bit of criticism for its weight, but will that prove decisive? Let’s take a closer look at the stats.

Starting with the new G90, it’s powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 coupled with an electric motor. These combine to produce an incredible 727hp and 1000Nm, and this power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. It tips the scales at a mighty 2,435kg, and as new it costs from £111,000.

Alongside it, we have the F90 Competition. It also has a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8, and this creates 625hp and 750Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed auto, and it weighs 1,895kg. When new, it cost around £109,000.

Then finally we have the F10. It’s also packing a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8, and this produces 575hp and 680Nm. It’s the only rear wheel drive car here, with the power sent to that set of tyres by a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. It’s the lightest car here, at 1,870kg, and when new it cost £79,000.

So will the newer and more powerful car snatch the win? There’s only one way to find out for sure… LET’S RACE!

Driving the Ruf SCR : This is NOT a Porsche 911 | Henry Catchpole - The Driver’s Seat

Ruf. Long before the word restomod was coined, years before a Porsche 911 had been altered by Singer or RWB or Theon or Gutherweks, there was Ruf. It is a name known the world over, thanks initially to a certain video with a Yellowbird on the Nurburgring and then thanks to that same canary-coloured CTR’s inclusion in the Gran Turismo video game on the Sony Playstation. But what is the company up to now? Henry Catchpole takes a visit to the factory in Pfaffenhausen to find out.

Before driving the latest (glorious sounding!) Ruf SCR, we sat down with the head of the family company, Alois Ruf. In a wide ranging interview he talked about how it all came into existence, the stories behind the famous Nordschleife shoot and the company’s relationship with Porsche. Alois is a fascinating man, full of humour and great tales and hopefully you’ll enjoy hearing what he has to say.

We then had a tour of the factory (including the fabulous dyno rooms) to see what goes into the cars that Ruf creates, before jumping behind the wheel of the SCR. This is one of Ruf’s latest models that looks - at first glance - like a very polished 964 but actually has a bespoke carbon fibre tub, inboard suspension and a carbon fibre body (that is so light even Henry’s skinny arms can lift it up!).

The SCR is very similar to the modern CTR, but where that has a turbocharged engine (like the original Yellowbird CTR) this SCR has a naturally aspirated flat-six that revs to 9000rpm. It also has a six-speed manual gearbox, but although it sounds like something that might only come out of the garage on high days and holidays, it actually feels surprisingly usable.

We hope you enjoy this latest episode of The Driver’s Seat. New Porsche 911 v Shelby GT 350: DRAG RACE

Change your car with Carwow: https://bit.ly/Change-Your-Car-3101

The new entry-level Porsche 911 is here, and it’s about to go head-to-head with an almighty American muscle car!

The question is, does the new Porsche 911 Carrera have what it takes to bring down the tuned Shelby GT 350? Let’s take a closer look at the stats.

Starting with the Porsche, it’s powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo flat-six that produces 394hp and 450Nm of torque. This power is sent to the rear wheels only via an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and the car tips the scales at 1,520kg. As new, this 911 will set you back around £100,000.

Then we come to the Shelby. Under the bonnet, you’ll find a 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8, which normally produces 526hp and 582Nm. However, in this instance, it’s been tuned, and it now puts down 600hp and 597Nm! Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual, and it weighs in at 1,680kg. As new in 2019, this car would set you back around £50,000.

So the Shelby is well up on power, but it’s packing a manual transmission! Will that prove decisive? There’s only one way to find out for sure… LET’S RACE!
