You'll often see Mat driving any number of luxurious and high-end cars on this channel, but have you ever asked yourself - what do the Carwow camera crew drive?

Well wonder no more! This is the Carwow Van Haven van, and if anything, we think it might be better and more luxurious than some of the cars we show off on this channel! So let's take a closer look at it...

The van started life as a VW Transporter. However, the Van Haven team have gone to town on it, ripping out almost all elements of the interior and allowing the Carwow crew to spec it as they wished. As a result, the cabin is now fitted with super-comfortable brown leather seats in the front and rear, and there's even a set of retractable tables in the rear to help with working on the go!

But that's not all! The van is chocked full of power points, which allows the team to have a coffee machine on the go at any hour of day on a shoot, and there's even a built in fridge! There's an awning on the side that also let's the team find shelter from the elements when we're on the drag strip.

In this stunning episode of The Driver’s Seat, Henry Catchpole gets behind the unique wheel of a prototype Porsche 911 restomod. This is the REEN Concept RSGT that blends the best of old-school air-cooled RS with the best of water-cooled new-school GT. It does so with four little switches on a custom Momo Prototipo and a 997 GT3 engine in the rear. Yes, a water-cooled Mezger flat-six in a 964 body.

This is essentially one man’s vision that he hopes others will share. That man is Philip Hoffmann, who is not only a doppelgänger for Christopher Reeves, but also a multi-talented force of nature. His day job is as a surgeon, replacing hips and knees but, in his spare time, he’s re-engineered (that’s where REEN comes from) a 964 to his own specifications, with KW suspension, new Brembo brakes, a Tillett bucket seat and custom power steering.

The heart of the REEN Concept, however, are the electronics that allow the driver to independently tune the exhaust, engine mapping, gearshift blip and traction control via the four switches on the steering wheel. The engine mapping is really the core of this and it’s amazing the the change it can affect in the car - turning it from relatively demure Carrera one minute to a brat RSR the next. And all without touching the suspension.

This is why the 997 GT3 engine with its electronics and Variocam needed to be used. Obviously fitting a water-cooled engine wasn’t the work of a moment but for future cars Hoffmann won’t need to because, with a little help from some friends (one of whom helped to develop the McLaren F1’s S70/2 V12!), he has now engineered an air-cooled version of the Mezger…

Hoffmann’s hope is that other Restomod companies might want to buy the patented REEN Concept electronics system. He would also love to see the electronics and engine used as a package by other Porsche restomod companies, but in collaboration with Muniq Design there are plans afoot for some complete cars of their own as you can see in the film.

We've brought together EVERY generation of VW Golf R, and we're about to put them head-to-head over the quarter-mile to see just how well VW's pocket rocket has evolved over the years!

To start, let’s check out the stats. The Mk8 Golf R has a 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo engine that makes 320hp and 420Nm of torque. That power goes to all four wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. This car weighs 1476kg and costs around £43,000 when new.

The Mk7 Golf R has a similar 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo engine that produces 300hp and 380Nm of torque. It comes with four-wheel drive, and the power is sent to the wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The car weighs in at 1,500kg, and when new the Mk7 R costs around £32,000.

Moving onto the Mk6 Golf R. It's supposed to have 4-cylinder 2.0L turbo engine that makes 270hp and 350nm of torque, however later in the video you'll see what it really has! It sends it power to all four wheels via a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, weighs 1546kg and would have cost around £31,000 when new.

The Mk5 was the last generation of golf R to have the mighty 3.2l naturally aspirated VR6 engine. In this car it makes 250hp and 320nm of torque. Power goes to all four wheels via a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It weighs 1510kg and would have cost £24,000 when new.

Then finally we come to the original Golf R. This car has a 3.2l naturally aspirated VR6 engine. It makes 241hp and 320nm of torque. That power goes to all four wheels via a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The car weighs 1477kg and would have cost just over £22,000 when it was new all the way back in 2002!


So the Mk8 Golf R is the newest car, surely it's got to be the fastest car here then right?! There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!
