This rubber duck can debug your code
It's 3:00 a.m. Your code is broken. You have no idea where your kids are. And
you're starting to wonder if building your own operating system kernel from
scratch was a bad idea.
When this happens, it's time to whip out your rubber duck. What you do is teach your imaginary friend how your code works line by line. The duck is a great listener who won't judge and criticize you.
Normal people will think you're crazy (which you are) but verbalizing your thought process out loud is a weirdly effective way to trigger a higher level of cognitive functioning.

Florida Man? More like Florida Chicken.
Recently we visited Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood. More Cuban exiles live here than arguably anywhere in the world. But there’s also a bunch of wild chickens, and it completely caught us off guard. Wild chickens everywhere, just wandering about.
Miami isn’t the only city where you see this. A 3-hour drive away is Key West, where you also see wild chickens, for example. Tampa, St. Augustine, Houston, New Orleans, and even Los Angeles have some, but they seem to be ALL OVER Miami.
So…why? Why did the chicken cross the road in Miami?

Henry Clay won an American presidential election by just 4 votes…
in Maryland.
Now, Andrew Jackson won the presidential election of 1832 OVERALL, but Clay’s 4-vote victory in Maryland is the smallest margin between two major party candidates in any state in any presidential election ever.
See? Every vote counts. But yeah actually every vote DOESN’T COUNT. Especially back then.
Why? Well because back then electoral votes weren’t awarded based on the popular vote. Sure, USUALLY whoever won the popular vote got all the state’s ELECTORAL VOTES, which are what REALLY count in presidential elections. Even though Clay won Maryland by just 4 votes, Maryland normally WOULD have awarded ALL 10 of its electoral votes to him, but it didn’t. Clay got just five, Jackson three, and two electors didn’t even cast votes! Phhh. I mean, whatever. It’s just the most important American election ever. Why would you need to cast votes in it?

How rare is it for presidents not to seek re-election? Well, it's probably not as rare as you might think. Nearly 1/3 of all American presidents chose not to run for another term in office.

U.S. President Joe Biden recently announced he would be running for re-election
But that was in 2023, which was, like, forever ago, and now he’s actually NOT running for re-election
So which OTHER American presidents CHOSE not to seek re-election when they could have?
Well, before presidents were limited to two terms, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, Andrew Jackson, Ulysses Grant, Grover Cleveland and Harry Truman all declined to run for a third term. James Buchanan and Rutherford Hayes both announced they’d be one-term presidents at their inaugurations. James Polk announced he’d be a one-term president before he even got elected. And finally Calvin Coolidge and Lyndon Johnson both shocked the nation by announcing they wouldn’t seek a second elected term. So yeah, I get why Biden announcing he would not seek re-election was surprising. He was the first since Johnson to do so.
In total, six presidents didn’t seek a second term and eight presidents did not seek a third term.
