You Won't Believe What Happened On Our 30hrs Flights to CAMBODIA

Spending 30hrs on a long haul flight is already hard enough on its own without anything else happening but for us we truly got the full experience while traveling from Montreal to Los Angeles to Taipei and finally Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Our 3o hours flight journey started with an Air Canada flight from Montreal to Los Angeles. This flight was on time and went pretty good. Upon landing in LAX we enjoyed a quick visit at the Centurion Lounge before making it to our next flight from Los Angeles to Taipei in Taiwan. The problem is that our luggages didn't make it. From what we understood a few days later when talking to the airlines over the phone, our luggages were never transferred from Air Canada to EVA Air in LAX...

With that being said, we then enjoyed our first ever flight on EVA Air which was surprisingly good. From the food to the service and legroom, this is definitely an airline I would recommend. But sadly for us, this 14hrs flight was the most turbulent we had ever experienced. The turbulence went on for several hours and even for frequent flyers like us, it was a bit much.

Upon landing in Taipei, we had plenty of time to visit the Oriental Club Lounge at the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport located inside terminal 2. This was by far one of our favorite airport lounge experience ever. The space was beautiful but the highlight was for sure the food which was delicious. On top of having the ready to eat food they had a chef preparing different dishes to order.

Finally, we took our third and final flight also with EVA Air from Taipei to Phnom Penh the capital city of Cambodia. This was a very nice and relaxing flight, once again with good food and great service. The problem was truly once we arrived and realized that our suitcases didn't make it to Cambodia like we did...

We then filled up some paper work at the airport and were told that the two lost luggages would be delivered at our hotel even though the airport employee couldn't find where they were at that time. The next morning we contacted Air Canada since we booked everything through them which was a waste of time as expected before we finally were able to talk to a very helpful EVA Air employee who found our luggages in the system and told us that they were on their way from Los Angeles to Phnom Penh. About 30hrs after arriving in Cambodia, we got both our luggages which was quite a relief!

Fun fact, because of our Amex Platinum card which is already amazing as it gives us access to tons of airport lounges around the world, it also had a great delayed luggage insurance so we were able to but all the essentials we needed before receiving our suitcases!

Our Winter Camping Setup at -20

We decided to challenge ourselves with a 24 hrs winter camping survival challenge. We do not have any real experience in terms of snow camping but we were in good hands with the Yours Outdoor and the Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve team who gave us some epic winter camping equipment on top of teaching us how to us it properly.

After a quick brief, we headed out on out own with all our winter survival equipment on a snow sled. After walking through the Haliburton Forest, we find a spot to pitch our hot tent for the night. It took a little longer than planned to put the tent together and set up the wood stove but for first timers, we did pretty good. From there we stocked up on wood for the night and started a fire inside our camping wood stove.

The real challenge was to keep the wood stove going to keep the hot tent warm throughout the night. I woke up ever few hours to put some more wood into the stove and eventually, the morning came when I was rewarded with some delicious hot maple oatmeal!

Our First Impressions of Cambodia

Welcome to Phnom Penh the capital city of the Kingdom of Cambodia. We just arrived in this new country to us and are excited to take you along as we explore its culture, history, food and more through the different markets, museum, monuments and of course street food. Our day started at the Phnom Penh Central Market in the heard of the city. This market had hundreds of merchants selling everything from handbags to shoes, watches, toys and of course fresh food. After exploring the market for a while we sat down and had two delicious bowls of noodle, the perfect way to start the day. This local market is also a great place to buy your souvenirs.

From there we drove our tuktuk to the Royal Palace of Cambodia. This is where the king of Cambodia still lives to this day and is an impressive compound with many things to see from a temple to the throne hall and 642m mural.

When in Asia, make sure to visit a 7 Eleven! I know it might sound weird but those convenient stores are very different and integrated into the culture on this side of the world. Get yourself a famous 7 Eleven grilled cheese and an iced coffee.

There is a new development in Phnom Penh called PH Euro Park. We are still very confused by it as it felt abandoned but at the same time to beautiful and impressive. Everything was opened but we were also told to leave so... Check it out... Maybe!

Because learning about the history of a country is an important part of traveling we decided to visit the Tuol Sleng Museum. It can be heavy as this place has a terrible past but it is important to learn and understand what happen to hopefully help prevent it in the future. This is a must do in Phnom Penh.

The sunsets in Cambodia's capital city do not get better than on the Mekong River so we decided to go on a sunset cruise which was very nice.

And of course, we decided to end our day the same we we started it with a market. We visited the Phnom Penh Night Market, a very popular stop to get some food and buy a thing or two.

Now the big question, Cambodia S Thailand which is better. Here is my point of view, Cambodia feels like Thailand 10 years ago, like it must have been before mass tourism and for someone who likes more raw travel experience, Cambodia is fantastic!

Overall, a great first impression of Cambodia and we can't wait to explore some more!

US Navy Plane Frozen in Time

We made our way to the Solheimasandur Plane Wreck an old fuselage left on the black sand beach from a US-Navy airplane that crashed there back in 1973 due to an ice storm. The full crew made it out alive and the wreckage has been there ever since attracting thousands of tourist every single year for that famous photo.
