MG lifts its small SUV game in size, quality and price (MG ZS Hybrid+ Essence 2024 review)

The MG ZS has gone from an SUV we wouldn’t recommend to anyone to an all-new design offering a huge lift in sophistication, interior quality and drivetrain tech. It’s now quite a good thing.

Effectively replacing the turbo-petrol ZST with a new-generation ZS Hybrid+ model in a pair of upper-spec trim grades, the all-new ZS will be joined by less expensive variants with non-hybrid powertrains in the coming months. Indeed, the idea of the much-improved new ZS running MG’s punchy turbocharged three-cylinder engine sounds quite pleasant to us.

Chasing Cars’ Jez Spinks came away quietly impressed with the new-gen ZS, but felt the Hybrid+ powertrain was best-suited to urban pottering, not interstate hauling.
