In the middle of 2024 Porsche released a facelifted Taycan with not a lot of fanfare. And it turns out that Stuttgart had performed a lot of polishing under familiar skin to make its electric flagship the best it could be.

Here on test is the Taycan Turbo S, the mid-tier variant of the electric sedan range and one that wants around $373K before on-roads and options.

In assessment, the purple Porsche laid down the electric gauntlet. Amazing range. Super-fast charging. And a 0-100km/h performance that reset the Chasing Cars podium to a lofty new high.

Our First Time at the WORLD'S BEST THEME PARK / Europa Park

Europa Park is one of the most visited theme park in whole of Europe and in the top 25 worldwide. It won the best theme park in the world award called "Golden Ticket" nine times since its opening 50 years ago.

As two theme park enthusiasts, we were so looking forward to visit Europa Park in Germany and let us tell you, it did not disappoint. Visiting this amusement park during the winter season. The beautiful lights everywhere, the Christmas market, projection mapping show and of course the famous Europa Park Christmas parade truly adds to the overall theme park experience.

What truly stands out is the incredible theming of the park. Every section is designed with a different country in mind from France to Ireland, Iceland, Switzerland and so many more. Every ride is also themed to perfection from its facade to its queue and track.

In terms of our favorite rides, we have a few! First of all I have to start with the Voltron roller coaster which is simply the best roller coaster I have ever been on. In terms of dark rides, two really stood out which are Arthure through the Minimoys Kingdom which is a family friendly hybrid between a roller coaster and a dark ride and Pirates in Batavia which was breathtaking!

We also truly enjoy the Europa Park Holiday offerings which included a beautiful Christmas projection mapping show on the Eurosat, their historical Christmas market offering a good selection of food and trinkets and of course the Europa Park Christmas parade with Santa Claus, Ed and their friends.

Overall, an amazing experience, our only regret was to not have stayed longer. One day at Europa Park is NOT ENOUGH! This is a world class theme park playing in the same league as DisneyWorld, Disneyland and Universal Studios. It might even be better than Disney...

Deep Fried Prime Rib

I’ve learned that there are multiple benefits to smoking something before deep frying. Of course, there is the flavor element, providing smokiness that an otherwise non-smoked & deep fried piece of meat wouldn’t have. However, possibly the greatest benefit is the impact on the crust.

We know that dry brining dries out the exterior which leads to a significantly better crust. But what I’ve found is that smoking for a couple hours first can compound this effect. The smoking step significantly dried the exterior of this prime rib which helped to create the perfect crust.

Also, I tried two processes when it came to prime rib. In one case I smoked it to 100F internal then deep fried until it reached 115F internal. There was a huge grey band this way…

The much better option was to smoke the prime rib all the way to 123F, let it rest for a full hour, then quickly deep fry for about 8 minutes right before carving. This was significantly better.

One final note, always be careful when deep frying large cuts like this. Always follow the deep fryer directions closely and make sure the flame is off when you add the meat!
