Driving the NEW Aston Martin Vanquish (Twin-turbo V12!) | Henry Catchpole - The Driver’s Seat

Henry Catchpole reviews the new Aston Martin Vanquish on the island of Sardinia in this latest episode of The Driver’s Seat. He tries really hard to steer clear of any references to James Bond but if there’s a famous hotel, a fast boat and an Aston Martin, what’s a chap to do?
Don’t worry, though, it’s not all Roger Moore and Martinis - there is plenty to talk about with this final piece of Aston’s three-car puzzle. The DB12, Vantage and now Vanquish are all front engined and rear-wheel drive, but each has a distinct character. The 2+2 DB12 was described as a Super GT, while the Vantage is clearly the more sporty offering. But what room does that leave for the Vanquish?

Well, as it turns out, the Vanquish is capable of being the best GT of the trio. However, it is also possessed of a rather brutish side, with a penchant for graffiti. Without even trying, the pale roads of Sardinia were left tattooed with tyre marks in every area of hard acceleration. If you turn the traction control off then the marks get darker still, but the Aston reveals a very refined form of unruliness with its E-diff doing an ace job of making things controllable.

The new Vanquish costs from £333,000 or $429,000, which puts it in direct competition with the new Ferrari 12Cilindri. Both cars produce over 800bhp from V12 engines (with no hybrid assistance, unlike the Lamborghini Revuelto) and transmit it all to the road via the rear wheels alone. The Italian is a little lighter and quicker, but the Brit is faster and while the naturally aspirated Ferrari makes do with 500lb ft of torque at 7250rpm, the twin-turbo Aston has 738lb ft (or a nice round 1000NM) of torque from 2500rpm to 5000rpm.

We’d be intrigued to know which you would have, given the choice. Maybe you’d rather have the new, hybrid V8 Bentley Continental GT… or are 12 cylinders a deal breaker? This Car SCAM Could Cost YOU Dearly!

Change your car with Carwow: https://bit.ly/Change-Your-Car-2410

Cloned cars are a serious issue in the UK. Some reports say there may be as many as 20,000 cloned cars on UK streets, while other reports say the number may be much higher!

To get to the bottom of how criminals do this, Mat’s turned to the dark side and is going to attempt to clone a car himself!

We’ve picked up a second-hand Mk6 Golf for just Ā£500. It was so cheap because it’s received some damage, so it’s listed as a CAT N write-off, meaning it’s received some non-structural damage which is repairable. Mat's now going to follow in a proper criminal’s steps by attempting to pass this car as another Mk6 Golf (which is in better condition, of course) and try and sell it on for a profit!

We’ve enlisted the help of the RAC and Devon & Cornwall Police to see what steps criminals take to clone a car, and we’ll also share some tips on how you can make sure you don’t buy a cloned car yourself.

Have you ever been the victim of a cloned car? Let us know in the comments!

Koenigsegg v Model X Plaid: DRAG RACE

Change your car with Carwow: https://bit.ly/Change-Your-Car-2610

Thanks to @wam_barn for joining us with their Koenigsegg!
Watch their behind-the-scenes video from the day: https://youtu.be/FxydJXQBh5k

The Koenigsegg Agera RST is BACK! And it’s going up against the Tesla Model X Plaid!

This is set to be one really interested drag race. We know the electric power of the Model X will propel it off the line, but not only is it down on power compared to the Koenigsegg, it’s also SO much heavier! But will that prove decisive?

For starters, let’s check the stats. The Koenigsegg is powered by a 5-litre twin-turbo V8 that can produce 1,360hp and 1,570Nm of torque. This power is sent to the rear wheels only via a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and the car weighs just 1,395kg. It’s one of the most expensive cars we’ve ever featured, valued at a cool Ā£3,500,000!!

As for the Tesla, it’s powered by 3 electric motors, and these combine to produce 1,020hp and 1,420Nm. The car has all wheel drive, and it weighs in at a fairly colossal 2,468kg. If you’re looking to pick one up today, it’ll cost around Ā£127,000.

So the Tesla weighs over a tonne more than the Koenigsegg! So does it stand a chance? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!
