A trip to Cambodia would never be complete without exploring its coastline and islands so we decided to jump on the Sihanoukville to Koh Rong Ferry and go explore this famous paradise island.

Let's face it, the ferries going across to Koh Rong Island are not great. They are know to be bumpy, late with bad customer service and our experience was no different. Koh Rong Island is a paradise for backpackers. This island has plenty of hostels, cafes, beach restaurant and of course, the famous Nestival attracting large crowds almost daily. But we are too old to party! Instead, we woke up early, rented a scooter from our beach resort and explored Koh Rong Island on our own. While on your beach vacation in Cambodia, you have to get out of the main village and visit Sok San Beach which is stunning and much less busy. If in rainy season, do go see the Koh Rong waterfall and let us know what it looked like...

After years of dreaming of this, we are finally checking swimming with whale sharks off of our travel bucket list here on Leyte Island in the Philippines. But first we have to make our way to this more remote island by taking a 3 hour ferry ride from Cebu to Leyte.

Upon arrival on Leyte Island in the town of Ormoc, we were quite surprise after being told that there are no taxis around. So we walked to the terminal and took a Jeepney which was super affordable and much more fun than a normal taxi. The Jeepney took us all the way to Burgo where our hotel was located.

Talking about hotel, we stayed at Burgos Reef Boutique Resort which is an incredible place to stay right on Sogod Bay. The room was very spacious and comfortable with a beautiful pool and some delicious food, especially the pizza.

For the main event, our whale shark tour, we picked Peter's Dive Resort and here is why. Many places around the Philippines including Cebu offer different whale shark experiences. With that being said, many of those companies are taking tourist in crowded places which truly takes away from the experience and is also terrible for the animals. We went out of our way to Leyte to see the whale sharks as there are simply less tour companies and tourists there. Peter's Dive Resort also has a great reputation for respecting the whale sharks and not feeding them. This is the Whale Shark tour operator you want and need!
