China absolutely NAILED IT with this car

Chery is a Chinese car manufacturer that’s also the parent company of two car brands you may have heard of - Jaecoo and Omoda.

However, following the release of several Jaecoo & Omoda cars in the UK, Chery has now unveiled two cars of its own - the 5-seater Chery Tiggo 7, and the car we have here, the 7-seater Chery Tiggo 8!

Now, before we get into it, there’s one thing you need to know about the Tiggo 8 - the price! You see, the entry-level car starts from just £28,545, while the range-topping PHEV we have here costs just £33,545!

The question is, are you better off choosing the Tiggo 8 over more expensive (and more established) European brands? Let’s take a closer look…

Starting with the design, the Tiggo 8 certainly has a premium look and feel. At the front, there’s a large, diamond-like grille, flanked on either side by real air vents. Along the side, all versions of the car get satin roof rails and chrome surrounds on the windows, and each door comes with pop-out door handles. At the back, there’s a full-length light bar, but there’s one key issue - a pair of some of the fakest exhaust pipes we’ve seen for some time!

Step inside and you’ll find a well-built cabin. There are soft-touch materials across the dash and high up on the doors, and the seats for both the driver and passenger are very comfortable. There’s a large infotainment screen in the centre of the dashboard that is easy to use and very responsive. If you pay for the upgraded ‘Summit’ model, the car comes packed full of features and tech, including ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, and heated & ventilated seats in the front and middle rows!

The entry-level Tiggo 8 is powered by a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine that can deliver 147hp. The car we have here is the hybrid, which is equipped with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine coupled with an 18kWh battery, and these combine to produce 204hp. The hybrid is also good for a claimed range of 56 miles driving on EV power alone.

So, for those of you looking for a 7-seater SUV, should the Chery Tiggo 8 be at the top of your wish list? You’ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself!

I Crossed The Ocean On A 1-Star Rated Ferry

See you on the high seas comrades!
🇦🇿On the Caspian Sea, between Azrbaijan and Kazakhstan there exists a ferry service that has nothing but atrocious reviews online. Well, I decided to go and investigate this Soviet ferry route and find out how bad it really is...or not. Join me as we set sail on the most Soviet sea of all for Central Asia...
Thank you to my friend Fred for the great 'Ferry-tale' pun I used. Hopefully he doesn't see this or he will make an emptional post on Instagram about it.

I almost broke the new McLaren Artura

This is the new McLaren Artura Spider!

That’s right - McLaren has finally released a convertible version of its hybrid sports car. However, while the roof may have changed, much of the rest of the car is the same. So the question is, does the Spider edition warrant the £221,500 price tag, when the standard Artura ‘only’ costs £202,000? Let’s take a closer look…

In terms of the design, the exterior is almost identical to the standard Artura - but that’s not exactly a bad thing! This means the front end has several vents, with each one serving a purpose. Along the side, you realise just how low down the car is, and there are huge air vents to be found on either side. Around the back, there are yet more vents to help cool the engine, as well as a large diffuser. All in, it looks pretty stunning!

On the inside, the Artura Spider is super minimalistic. Most of the functionality is controlled through a small infotainment screen, although to be honest, it can be a bit laggy. The centre console holds buttons for the drive selector, and there’s a set of digital dials that move along with the steering column. The materials throughout the cabin are all well-made and feel expensive, but what more would you expect from a car that costs this much!

The Artura Spider is powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo V6 coupled with an electric motor. It’s the same engine as in the standard Artura, but the power has been increased by 20hp, so it now produces a total of 700hp! This power is sent to the rear wheels only via an 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

So is the Artura Spider the best choice? Or should you choose a different convertible sports car instead? Stick with Mat to see for yourself!
